Social Enterprise at Schools
SEAS is an initiative of Cantilever Partnership which has been developed in association with the Learning and Skills Council (LSE) London Central, the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Innovation Unit and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) to promote and support the development of social enterprises at school and college locations.
Cantilever Partnership
Cantilever Partnership is a social enterprise from Community Action Network (CAN). CAN, a registered Charity, is a mutual learning and support network for social entrepreneurs, which works in creative partnerships across the private, public and social sectors.
Over the past three years, through building entrepreneurial partnerships, Cantilever has created a ‘Partnership Schools’ model that is assisting both in the transformation of education and community regeneration through networking, collaboration and innovation. Our focus is on improving education attainment through a new integrated approach to public service delivery in some of the most deprived areas in the UK with different marginalized client groups.
Cantilever has also helped and provided direct support to schools to develop strong community links to tackle social problems. Wider partnerships across the community can benefit pupils and their families, involve parents in their children’s learning and behaviour, raise attainment across the whole community, create opportunities for lifelong learning and skills as well as enterprise. We have especially found that Social Enterprise can be a powerful tool to deliver social change. So, we have developed a Social Enterprise at Schools Programme (www.seas-online.org.uk) to specifically provide information about social enterprise to young people and schools as well as directly assisting them to set one up.
